Yet again, this season, my League of Injustice column will provoke comment and
opinion and that's what it's all about.
Many will spit their dummies out when
I give an opinion against their club - that's expected and understood.
What
is important though is that everyone understands what this column is about.
Basically it is a bit of fun. It is my chance to give an unbiased opinion on major
refereeing decisions. I accept that this is far easier from an armchair with the benefit of
countless action replays than it is on the pitch.
It is not an exact science. In fact, far from it. I merely adjust scores and sometimes results to correct individual decisions. These things include offside, penalties etc.
I cannot assume what might have happened had a player been sent off or any other eventuality.
A penalty awarded results in a goal being scored. I am not suggesting that keepers can't save any spot-kicks, or indeed that the kicker cannot miss the target, but the thought process is that if you expect perfection, then surely a highly paid professional should be able to score
from a penalty. You want perfection from referees, so I expect the same from players.
Each week, the amended league table will accompany the article and we
will see how much these reffing errors affect the real League table.
At the end of the day, my opinions will change nothing and the simple fact is
that it is PLAYERS' mistakes rather then REFEREES' errors that ultimately
decide the result of any game of football.
So those are the rules, here we go.
